What kinds of dentures can I choose from?

While most dentures are made of acrylic, they can be made in different ways—conventional or immediate. Conventional dentures are molded to the mouth after all teeth have been extracted and the gums have fully healed, while immediate dentures are placed immediately after extractions. However, your gums can still heal beneath immediate dentures. You can also choose between upper or lower dentures, or both. How do I take care of my dentures?

Just like you would with your natural teeth, it’s important to brush your dentures twice a day to gently remove plaque and debris. At night, you should soak them in water and Efferdent to remove the day’s stains and keep them fresh. Remember to avoid using hot water to clean your dentures, as heat can warp the material. Beyond allowing your dentures to soak, taking them out at night also gives your gums a break, preventing irritation. Outside of these at-home practices, it’s important to check in with Dr. Meyer or Dr. Clough regularly to ensure they’re holding up and still fitting properly as your mouth changes over the years. Debbie, Terri, Dr. Meyer, everyone makes me feel comfortable and welcome no matter the reason for my visit. Terri makes sure I have samples of the recommended toothbrushes, floss, and toothpaste, etc. that is best for me. Terri does a wonderful job taking care of my dental needs as a Hygentist and makes sure I understand everything about the progress and changes in dental care.
